IMSU VC, Prof. Adaobi Obasi Sacked, To Stop Functioning On December 30
December 18, 2020
The Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), Prof. Victoria Adaobi Obasi has been sacked by Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State. The information was contained in a press statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku and made available to Browse.ng on Friday. The decision to sack the Obasi, who happens to be the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution was reached at an Executive Council Meeting chaired by the governor on Wednesday, December 16, according to the statement.
The governor also ordered a forensic audit of the higher institution amid allegations of monumental corrupt practices as reported by a panel. The panel recently investigated the university’s activities between 2012-2019.
Governor Uzodinma said a Committee will be set up to handle all admissions, under the leadership of the Registrar of the University to checkmate the level of admission racketeering in the University.
The statement also stated that Prof. Obasi will stop functioning as the vice-chancellor on December 30, 2020.
Recall that Governor Uzodinma earlier queried Prof. Adaobi Obasi following a discovery by the State Government that the University management under Obasi had allegedly received the February 2020 subvention without putting same to use.
This, it was discovered, led to the staff of the University not getting paid for February 2020.
It was further learnt that the Governor was angry when the panel investigating how the university was being run came up with a proof that the VC was unable to give an explicit account of how the February subvention was utilised.
