Trevor Noah is a South African-born comedian, political commentator, and television host who has gone on to become one of the top and most outstanding stand-up comedians in South Africa as well as the United States and internationally.


After he appeared on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and 'The Late Show with David Letterman, he was named the host of the 'Daily Show' in 2015 upon Jon Stewart announcing his departure from the show.

Early Life

Trevor Noah was born on February 20th,1984 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. He was born into a Christian family, to a Black Xhosa mother and a White Swiss-German father whose union was illegal as a result of the country's apartheid system at the time.


As a result, Trevor Noah grew up to watch his mother being jailed for short periods and him having to hide from authorities as classified as colored, despite how secret his parents tried to conduct their relationship.


He grew in poverty and this aspect of his life would later become one of Trevor Noah's subjects of his comedic works.


He has two stepbrothers; Andrew and Issac, both from his mother's late marriage to Ngisaveni Abel Shingange.


He grew up experiencing physical abuse from his stepfather and at the same time, watched his mother being abused by the same man.

Trevor Noah attended Maryvale College, a private Roman Catholic primary and high school in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Career

Trevor Noah began his career in his country of birth in 2002. He had appeared in a soap opera in his late teens and afterward, started honing his comedy skills in his 20s.


He had many hosting roles with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and he doubled as the runner-up in the fourth season of South Africa's iteration of Strictly Come Dancing in 2009.


From 2010 to 2011, Trevor Noah hosted the late-night talk show titled, 'Tonight with Trevor Noah. He created and aired the talk show on M-Net and DSTV.


He played a minor role in an episode of a South African TV program titled, 'Isidingo.' Afterwards, he started hosting his radio show he called 'Noah's Ark' on YFM.


However, he dropped the show to focus on comedy whole he performed with top South African comedians like Kahiso Lediga, Riaad Moosa, Nik Rabinowitz, David Kau, and Marc Lottering. Also, he performed alongside international comedians like Dan llic, Carl Barron and Paul Rodriguez.


Not long after that,  he hosted the educational TV program titled, 'Run The Adventure' on SABC 2.


In 2012, he starred in the movie, 'Mad Buddies.'
