Mike Agbedor Abu Ozekhome Biography and Educational Background
Mike Ozekhome was born on the 15th of October, 1957 in Iviukwe, Agenebode in Edo State, Nigeria. His parents, Chief Abu Ozekhome and Madam Alimoh Abu Ozekhome were respected Chiefs and notable Community leaders.Mike had his primary education at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Iviukwe, after which he enrolled at St. Peter’s College, Agenebode. upon obtaining his WASC, he enrolled at Baptist Academy, Lagos, for his Higher School Certificate (HSC).
He thereafter, secured admission to study English Language at the University of Ife, later switching to the faculty of Law. While in the university, he served as an acting Speaker of the student parliament, the Student Representative Council (SRC). He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree and became a Barrister at Law in 1981 after graduating from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.
Career
High Chief (Dr) Mike A. A. Ozekhome, SAN started his professional legal practice as a Youth Corper posted to Yola, the capital city of the then Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba States) but got redeployed to the Federal Ministry of Justice, Lagos
In 1983, he joined the Chambers of Chief Gani Fawehinmi as a junior counsel, rising to a senior counsel and finally the Deputy Head of Chambers by 1985.
In 1982, he returned back to pursue his master’s degree programme at the University of Ife. He lectured simultaneously in the Faculty of Law as he pursued his master’s degree programme.
In 1986, Dr Ozekhome founded his own multi-office firm, Mike Ozekhome's Chambers. He has offices of his chambers in Lagos, Agenebode, Abuja and, Benin City.
In 2010, he was one of 19 senior legal practitioners conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
